December 01, 2010

NEW YORK, NY – December 1, 2010 – On Tuesday, November 23, 2010, Auburn University’s Animal Health Performance Program held a graduation ceremony to mark the completion of training for nine Vapor Wake explosive detection canine teams.  Three teams belong to T&M Protection Resources (T&M), four teams belong to the New York Police Department (NYPD) and two teams belong to the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).

Vapor Wake is the latest state-of-the-art technology in canine explosive detection. Created at the Canine Detection Research Institute at Auburn University, Vapor Wake enables a specially-trained canine to be continuously alert to airborne odors emitted by explosive materials and to track the scent of explosives to its source. The specialized training of the handler and the specially-bred canine occurs at a 24,000 sq. ft. instructional complex in Auburn, Alabama.

Michael Stapleton, the pioneer and recognized expert in the training and handling of explosive detection canines, was the keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony. Mr. Stapleton is the President of Camp Frontline and recently entered into an exclusive agreement with T&M to lead the expansion of its explosive detection canine services.

Attendance at the graduation included Robert S. Tucker, Chairman and CEO of T&M, Rocco DeBenedetto, Vice President of Special Operations (which includes T&M’s explosive detection canine services) and Paul Stapleton, T&M's Director of Canine Operations. After the ceremony, Mr. Tucker commented, “I laud the NYPD for pursuing Vapor Wake training. It signals that this technology is the next step in the effort to further protect New York City, which arguably is a City with the greatest risk for an act of terrorism in the Country.”

Vapor Wake is currently being utilized in the public sector by the U.S. Capitol Police, the Federal Protective Service and Amtrak Police. T&M is the first and only private security firm in the United States to offer Vapor Wake explosive detection canine services.
