Security Firm Guarding Fund Pros

October 12, 2005

A New York security firm has decided to formally market its services to hedge fund managers who want protection against family kidnappings or corporate sabotage.

T&M Protection Resources counts 10 hedge fund managers among its clients, up from two a year ago, according to the firm's chief executive, Robert Tucker. He said the hedge fund industry is the fastest growth area for his business.

In addition to supplying body guards and armed drivers, T&M offers consulting on alarm systems, access-control systems and telephone surveillance to assure that lines aren't bugged. The firm also conducts due-diligence reviews of companies that hedge funds are considering as investments.

The press attention that fund managers are getting about their incomes makes them vulnerable, Tucker said. "You don't have to talk about Eddie Lampert getting kidnapped to know these risks exist," he said. Lampert, a billionaire who heads ESL Investments, was kidnapped outside his Connecticut office in 2003.

Founded in 1991, T&M was acquired in 1999 by Tucker, who is a former assistance district attorney in New York.
